The American Legion

Service – perhaps the best way to describe the American Legion.
The American Legion is about service. It’s another way to serve your country, by serving at home.  If you are on active duty today anywhere in the world, or have served during any eligible war eras, you are a veteran and you’re eligible to become a Legionnaire!  We’re veterans just like you, nearly 3 million strong, who care about America, veterans and their families and our nation’s youth. The Legion is a powerful voice in Washington dedicated to preserving the rights we’ve all earned – and were promised – by service to our nation in uniform.

Through committee and local posts, the Legion has developed programs to help children and youth, veterans in need and the community in general. ‘Get Involved’ is the motto of The American Legion and that is why the Legion is the largest veterans’ organization. It’s that background of involvement that creates and supports the feeling of camaraderie which makes the Legion a great place to serve.

We work to not only to protect and improve benefits for veterans, but we’re also working to improve the pay, training and living conditions of our men and women who are serving today. But more importantly, we working to make our communities better through some of our many programs including Children and Youth and Americanism.
The American Legion also offers many benefits besides the satisfaction of serving your community. You can check these benefits offered only to American Legion members.

If you’ve already served your country during a period of war or conflict, then you can join your comrades and continue to serve your country and community as part of The American Legion.  We invite you to join us now. Membership brings an impressive array of benefits. The American Legion is always there for you and your family – in Washington and nearly 15,000 local posts throughout America and abroad.

Just like you, we’re “Still Serving America!”

The Sons of the American Legion

The Sons of The American Legion was created in 1932 as an organization within The American Legion. The S.A.L. is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military and became eligible for membership in The American Legion.

Together, members of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of The American Legion make up what is known as The Legion Family.

What it means to belong to the American Legion

“AS A LEGION MEMBER OF 14 YEARS, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT WHEN YOU JOIN THE LEGION, YOU LEARN TO RESPECT, COMRADESHIP, AND LOVE FOR OUR GREAT COUNTRY AND COMMUNITY. WHEN YOU VOLUNTEER TO HELP AT AN EVENT YOU LEARN TEAMWORK AND WHAT IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL. ONE OF THE THINGS I HAVE LEARNED IS A FEELING OF OUTSTANDING INTERACTION AND DEMONSTRATED LEADERSHIP ABILITY MOST NOTEWORTHY AND HAVE POSITIVELY IMPACTED THE POST. MAXIMUM RESULTS WITH LIMITED RESOURCES, DEDICATION TO PROJECTS REFLECT GREAT CREDIT UPON ALL WHO SERVE AS AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW.
ALPHA BRAVO AND CONGRATULATIONS ON A JOB WELL DONE!”

– Commanding Officer, Jack Repta
